Jasper Morrison (Special Judge, Product designer)

Overview

The best year so far for the MUJI AWARD. There were many good ideas, and most of them had plenty of MUJI about them. I liked all of the winners and plenty of others too. What impressed me the most was the high level of entries which avoided the visual game that design is becoming, in favour of a more thoughtful and holistic approach, with use and the experience of using given a leading role in the projects.

About the gold award

Why is a straw called a straw in English? No doubt the first straw was a straw! But nobody remembered that until now. I like this project a lot, it's obvious to the point of stupidity like all the best ideas. I think it's also a great MUJI product, full of spirit.

About the silver award

A huge, lightweight & portable garbage bag which, unlike a plastic bag has the stability to hold the opening in the same place for easier use and be good looking while doing so!
